Better Networking Through Confident Speaking

Better Networking Through Confident Speaking

We recognize the value of a strong professional network around ACC HQ, which is why we’re always refining our contacting skills. Through our experiences attending big industry gatherings, we’ve found that there are many parallels between being a strong public speaker and succeeding as a networker. We apply the following strategies to make sure we’re as effective as we can be in both areas.

When we’re preparing to speak in front of an audience or meet with a group of potential contacts, being nervous is natural. If we put in the time to practice, however, we feel much more confident in either situation. There may still be some anxiety when we head to the podium or enter a crowded room, but we turn these feelings into positive energy that fuels strong impressions.

Just as we do research on our topics and audiences for ACC speeches, we also learn about the people with whom we hope to connect. Before any industry event, we go through related websites and social media pages to gather information on attendees. By the time we arrive at the function, we have some good icebreakers already in mind. We also know how to tailor our elevator pitches toward would-be contacts’ interests and goals.

These concepts inform our speaking and networking endeavors. Find more of our best success tips by liking ACC on Facebook.
